Hola!
Welcome to my super friendly-Blog! where I share my best ideas on how to live a plant-based lifestyle!
Today I am going to write about the selection of products that I use for personal hygiene and home cleaning, all of these share the following qualities, they are:
Vegan
Cruelty-free
Based on natural ingredients
Eco-friendly!
With that being said, I will begin by warning you that I am quite a practical person and I do not like having a house full of jars, not at all! So I lean towards multipurpose and efficient products.
I'm going to start with the base of everything, this is the product that we use the most in my house, and if this does not work, I look for another:
“Dr. Bronner's soap” is just one product with 18 different uses! It is the beginning and the end, but what makes this product so “good” ?
100% post-consumer recycled plastic packaging — bottles into bottles, not landfill!
100% Biodegradable
Contains at least 70% Fair for life fair trade certified ingredients.
Cruelty-free
Natural organic ingredients, without chemicals or harmful dyes!
It has 18 uses!
It is genuine!
What are its uses? And, are they really effective?
Here I will list one by one, write my review, and the option that I use if I am looking for something more effective.
I will review: Dr Bronners. 18-in-1 Hemp Peppermint Castile soap - the one with the blue label, and I bought it at Costco!
Personal hygiene - Cleaning of:
Face: my skin type is mixed, no acne, no problem.
It cleanses my face very well without leaving it super dry, leaving a feeling of freshness from the peppermint! I have been using it for about 1 year with no adverse effects. (10/10)
* I also use: Pacha soap co. <—- Link for more info! It’s very exfoliating - dead sea mud, to exfoliate the body and face 1 or 2 times a week - and it's too good! When I apply it to my face, I want to eat it. (11/10)
Natural, Vegan, Cruelty-free product, that adds value to society, is full of well-being!
Hands: Dilute ¼ of soap in ¾ of water in a dispenser and voila! Cleans your hands very well and refreshes them, without drying them out. (10/10)
Body: I pour a small amount on a sponge with water and it cleans very well, most of the time I repeat the process until the skin is totally smooth, the only thing I don't love is that the peppermint gives me a horrible cold feeling, It should be refreshing, but it doesn't work like that for me, for the winter I'm going to try another ingredient for sure! (8/10)
Hair: I have long hair and a lot of it! I tried it several times, using more and less product, but it did not work for me, it cleaned to the root, but the rest of the hair was left feeling greasy and dull (4/10) I would use it in an emergency.
*I prefer to use: ACURE <—Link! DAILY WORKOUT WATERMELON & BLOOD ORANGE SHAMPOO
It works really well for me, I wash my hair every other day, I don't use a conditioner.
100% VEGAN. 0% PRETENTIOUS.
Paraben free, Sulfate free, Mineral oil free, Petrolatum free, Formaldehyde free, Cruelty free (10/10)
Shaving foam: I do not have delicate skin, I pour some in a sponge with a little water until lathering, it works very well, leaving the skin soft, is just practical. (10/10)
Toothpaste: Works Amazingly Great! Add a few drops to the brush with water and it cleans very well, leaving a feeling of freshness. (9/10)
*I prefer to use: Tom’s of Maine toothpaste - Spearmint - Fluoride-Free Antiplaque & whitening toothpaste.
* fluoride-free because we already have enough from the water. (we use tap water filtered with britax)
Tom's of Maine products do not contain artificial sweeteners, preservatives, colors, flavors, or animal ingredients; are tested for safety and efficacy without the use of animals; are biodegradable; and are packaged in earth-friendly ways.
Clean Fruits or Vegetables: works perfectly well, without fear of poisoning or tummy ache from eating soap (10/10)
Aromatherapy: I don't know... peppermint makes my eyes burn, maybe another scent? maybe… but it works (5/10)
Home cleaning:
Cleaning dishes: It works for light cleaning, it’s a little hard to take off the grease, dilute ¼ of the soap in ¾ of water. (8/10)
*For deep cleaning I used the dishwasher or vinegar + baking soda to clean the pots.
Laundry detergent: It does cleans clothes and leaves them smelling great, I use it especially to wash kitchen towels or specific things that I wash by hand, such as the facemask for example because I love that the soap comes out very quickly which saves water, but to wash the rest of the clothes I buy something more specific because I would use the entire container in a week. (10/10)
*I prefer to use: ECOS laundry detergent Free & Clear and I find it at Costco!
Non-polluting, plant-based ingredients create a low-sudsy wash and are septic and gray water safe. Natural, non-toxic product that is 100% biodegradable.
Mopping Floors: How clean is your house? Cleans and leaves a good aroma without chemicals or toxins! works perfect if it's a routine cleaning. (10/10)
Fabric / Carpet Cleaner: Add ¼ of liquid to ¾ of warm water in a spray bottle, it works great! especially because it’s very easy to remove, I used it on the carpet in my car that had spilled some canned beans, it smelled terrible, no description! clean with this mixture and it was super simple, it took a bit to get the smell out because , of course! it’s a natural product without chemicals, but after trying a couple of times, it was perfect! (11/10)
Surface Cleaner: Cleans wonderfully well, leaving counters gleaming with no dullness or greasy effect, it just removes dirt. (10/10)
Bathtub Cleaner: OK! not even the strongest scrub had made my tub so white! It was impeccable, now I can be much more confident of taking my bathtubs without traces of chemicals! (10/10)
Mirror / Window Cleaner: Diluted, removes dust and dirt without leaving a trace. (10/10)
Kitchen cleaner: Removes grease and dust, perfect for the everyday cleaning (10/10)
Toilet Cleaner: It works ok, it won't leave it sparkling clean! but it does the job, however I prefer this one for the quality of the ingredients, I just gotta clean it more often. (6/10)
Well, that’s it! that was my selection of what I use for my personal hygiene and house cleaning, and the rest of the other products that I cannot get from “Dr Bronner’s” like:
Toothbrush: I use, Preserve Toothbrush
Made with recycled yogurt cups, I buy it at Trader Joe’s for $ 2.99, and it works ver well! cause the really important thing is actually knowing how to properly brush your teeth, I am very devoted to my dental health, because I used orthodontics all my life, so I can confirm that it works! (10/10)
Deodorant: Tom’s of maine-Long Lasting Deodorant in Coconut Lavender (9/10)
Honestly, cause it is made with natural ingredients, and I like the company, although I am not strong smelling, I do sweat a lot - but for the day to day it works perfectly.
Aluminum free
No animal ingredients
No artificial fragrances or preservatives
Not tested on animals
Ok, I think I’ve listed all the basic personal hygiene & cleaning products that I use, I am very faithful to the brands that I use because before committing to them, I inform myself very well about their practices and once I feel identified, I am a customer forever!
I’m also sharing this list with you because when we buy with intention we value more the work behind of a product and its process, when a company strives to do a good job, their customers (like me) want them to keep doing the good job and everybody to know about them! we feel better spending our money (even if it is a little more), and putting it where we want it to be, in the common welfare and in a better environment and although we cannot change all the companies, we can use every dollar to support those who care about us or simply seek for the common welfare! with this, I do not mean that you have to use these products to be happier or be a better consumer, but without a doubt it is an invitation to look for a product that works for you now and does not harm you in the long term, change is progressive and always positive! #VoteWithYourDollars
